Desmond Tutu conference center

Has anyone stayed at the Desmond Tutu Conference Center in Chelsea ?
Was public transportation near by ?

I live nearby - it's a nice neighborhood. Two long blocks and two short blocks to a good subway line 23rd St. the local stop on the E and C - probably a 6 minute walk. The subway is about 5 minutes to midtown, 12 minutes to the eastside(53rd Street and Lexington). There are several buses going both up and downtown right near the Center.

It's a very residential area, quite close the the Westside Highway and the Hudson River, the Chelsea Art Galleries, and many good restaurants and bars and coffeee shops. It's a a short walk to Greenwich Village.

I haven't been inside the rooms, but I've been curious. The only downside to the area is that the Theological Seminary that owns the building is also constructing a new tower on the block - so noise may be an issue - I would ask when you reserve.

thank you for the information...
we are staying there Aug 22nd to the 25th..
if you are interested in seeing the room or hotel, feel free to stop when we are there ! My almost 18 yr old daughter and I are having a mom/daughter weekend in New York.
It looks like they have a fabulous breakfast - consider yourself invited !

Wow, that's sweet! Thanks! Speaking of breakfast, if you like wonderful croissants and pastries, do not miss the local patisserie/bakery - Le Bergamote - just a block away from you on 9th Avenue and 20th St. Some of the best sweets in the city.

If you are shoppers, there is a wonderful boutique in the Chelsea Market (9th Avenue and 15th Street) - Nicole Farhi. And there are all the high-price boutiques down the block in the meatpacking district - Stella McCartney, Scoop, Jeffrey, Diane Von Furstenberg, etc. Also Barney's Co-op is on 18th bet. 7th And 8th. The Co-op Warehouse Sale (a big deal) will be going on while you're here - 8'14 - 9/1.
