Describe Your Dream Hotel Room
 

We've stayed in a lot of hotel rooms around the world and they all have their good and bad. Here is my list of ideals for the perfect hotel room. What would you add?

Good firm mattress
Two night stands beside the bed
Two good reading lights
One switch by the bed that turns off all the lights
Two large comfortable chairs
A table or work station
Good data port phones - at desk and near bed
A choice of pillows - hard, soft, big, small
A good radio or cd player
Television with remote that works
CNN Headline News - so I can catch up quick
Iron and board
A clock with alarm
Coffee maker and good coffee - ceramic mugs
Morning newspaper
A large closet with lots of hangers
Hallway doors that close QUIETLY
Great soundproofing
Easy to use climate controls
Windows that open
And ice machine on every floor
A mini frig that isn't a mini bar
Tissues in a movable box so I can have them where I need them
A full length mirror
In the bathroom:
A vanity big enough to set a few things on
Good lighting for make-up
A magnifying mirror
Hair dryer that isn't attached to the wall
A vent that gets rid of steam
Good linens - large towels
Cubby holes or drawers for storage
Seperate areas for toilet and vanity or bath.

Excellent List! I just need to add my personal pet peeve -

WATER PRESSURE!

(having some trouble posting - sorry if it double posts)

I would add ottomans for the upholstered chairs, a small safe, and a microwave with a packet of popcorn. Hot chocolate and tea should be available for the coffee maker. In the bathroom, I'd include a night light. Of course the dream hotel room includes large windows and a great view!

Windows that open.

Availability of real milk/cream from bar or restaurant for morning coffee.

I love a hotel room with the OUTSIDE temperature on the thermostat.

Doors that don't bang into each other when open.

NO marble ledges between bathroom and room (for stubbing toe in middle of night in dark).

I'll sum it up by merely mentioning the Villa style rooms at the Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay in Bali. A private plunge pool, outdoor living room area, spacious bedroom, and very large bathrooms. The only thing I would have added would be a steam/shower.

Clothes hangers that I can remove off the bar.

Room service that shows up the same day you call them...

coffee maker NOT in the Bathroom!

Floor to ceiling windows in the bathroom that overlook Central Park. Of course the huge tub with the view of Central Park will also have a roaring fireplace close by.

Don't give a rip about any other amenities.

I cannot stand that marble threshold between the room and the bathroom - stubbed my toe more than once on that thing!

Since we often travel with two teens, a boy and girl, both of whom still kick in their sleep, we wish more hotels offered a "family" room with a double/queen bed plus bunk beds, like the Wilderness Lodge at Disney World, instead of two doubles/queens.

I agree with you all. Also would like the safe to be large enough to hold my laptop.

A brawny Austrian masseuse from Collyfownya,lol. Oops, wrong fantasy! I guess besides the usual creature comforts and superb cleanliness/sanitation, I'd like some vintage wine, along with a small library area with classic reading material, great stereo system and a high floor view of a glistening bay on a starry winter night. Duvet on bed, which is elevated. Oh, and a fireplace, why not? Enveloped in my cozy robe and slippers, fresh from my soaking bath(with an assortment of luxury bath goodies and chocolates of course). Before bed, the bedside light whch tells the maid not to disturb. Maybe an assortment of relaxing sounds to fall asleep by.I have stayed at a few nice resorts in Hawaii which bring back fond memories. Fun post TC!

Two baths or at least a bath and a half!

Along with everthing else that has been mentioned:

Cleanliness!

A nice chocolate when the bed is turned down. Always a sucker for that piece of chocolate!

A bowl of fresh fruit.

A panel of electrical controls on the bedside nightstand, providing remote control of curtains, lights, TV, radio, etc. - like those I met for the first time in the Hong Kong hotels.

Oh yes, that reminds me - a pot of nice hot tea within minutes of arrival along with a few snacks. Wonderful way to relax after a long flight!

Warm slippers.

If it's cold out there, a great light down comforter three feet deep!

A great concierge level with copies of the major papers and news magazines, along with a concierge who knows the best in local restaurants and shows.

Good limo service that meets you at the airport and takes you there in time for your return flight.

I experienced the perfect hotel room (for me) this year in New York at the Peninsula.

1. great location
2. very comfortable mattress
3. high thread count sateen sheets so as not to chafe LilMsFoodies delicate skin
4. oversized duvet with light weight down comforter.
5. wide selection of pillows to meet various sleepers needs
6. room controls (light, tv, sound, security) on the night stand
7. magnifying mirror in the bath
8. waist high vanity and sinks in bath room
9. large, deep soaking bath tub
10. shower with multiple heads
11. excellent lighting
12. choice of 6 bottled waters replenished twice daily.
13. fluffy bath robe and slippers with a nice little linen mat bedside so bare feet do not have to touch carpet.
14. Great room service coffee service delivered when I want it with the Times in its own little bag.
15. Nice desk area with own fax machine for room and internet accessibility.

Only negative here was the room service food that was strangely tasteless but beautifully presented. LilMsFoodie

Triple sheeting and a clean down comforter.

We have stayed at a lot of nice hotels but think our best stay was in a suite last weekend at the Ritz Carlton Amelia Island Fl. The room was fabulous, service was great and we had a wonderful time. I recommend this hotel 100%.

Just back from NY and one thing I loved in the DoubleTree hotel was two sinks in the bath. We have this at home, but had never encountered it at a hotel. Great for getting two ready for theater and dinners.
