DENVER/COLORADO SPRINGS
We are planning a trip to Colorado this summer to Denver and Colorado Springs area. We have booked a room at the Red Lion in downtown Denver. Has anyone stayed there? What are the not miss attractions in Denver. We have planned a baseball game at Coors field and a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park via tour bus.
Also going to Colorado Springs/Pikes Peak/Garden of the Gods and Royal Gorge? Is Cripple Creek worth going to? What are some good hotels in Colorado Springs? Right now we have reservations at the Ramada Inn downtown. Thanks for any advice-this will be our first trip to both areas.

Don't think from visiting the eastern slope of Colorado that you have seen the prettiest part.
Sometime, get over to the central, and especially the southwest corner of the state. The loop of Durango, Silverton, Ouray, Black Canyon, Telluride, and Mesa Verde will be well worth your visit.

If you search down through some of the previous threads from this month there are a number of sights/activities people have talked about for Denver and Colo Springs. If you go to Colo Springs definitly go to Pikes Peak. You can take the Cog Railway or drive. I have driven up it and I was terrified of the top portion (as its a dirt road with no guard rails). Hit Garden of the Gods as well and Royal Gorge is interesting. I would skip Cripple Creek and instead go to Central City which is closer to Rocky Mnt National Park. I think Central City/Blackhawk are nicer and not as far out of the way as Cripple Creek is (in comparison to the other places you will be visiting). My parents seem to love the New Hyatt Casino in Central City or Blackhawk, I am not sure which one it's in (both are very close to each other).
There arent that many really nice hotels in Colo Springs. The Wyndham would be fine but prob nothing spectacular (that 40 dollar room rate is awesome however). Of course the Broadmoor is nice and there may be a few places in Manitou Springs that people could reccomend. I would say if you can get a rate like Al's at the Wyndham go for it, its close to the highway (I-25) and it would prob be nicer than the Ramada Inn.

To Lenleigh-
I'm wondering if you share my opinion of Royal Gorge. I was there about 17 years ago, and went there for three successive years. I thouroghly enjoyed Royal Gorge. It was a beautiful, quiet and interesting place. The admission price then was 75 cents. I just returned from a trip to Colorado Springs, and I wanted to visit Royal Gorge again. I didn't go. The admission price now is $16.00. They have made a travesty of this place.
