Denver restaurant for big group

Going to Denver next weekend with old college friends. It'll be about 14 of us, and we're looking for a restaurant that will run us about $10-15 bucks per plate (excluding alcohol, the budget for which is nearly unlimited). We're staying at the Westin - Tabor Center hotel.

We're looking for basic eats, nothing especially adventurous. American food, burgers, pizzas, sandwiches, etc. Hefty beer list is a plus.

We loved Casa Bonita in Denver. It's a Mexican restaurant with some really neat entertainment. Check out the website and see what you think. It's memorable, that's for sure!

Did you say beer? The Wynkoop Brewery may be an option. The food is definitely basic and not really spectacular, but it is close to the Westin Tabor Center and may be exactly what you are looking for.

No offense to carolyns, but Casa Bonita is horrible.

Casa Bonita? LOL It's an indoor amusement park for kids who don't care about the horrendous quality of the food - it's nowhere close to downtown anyway.

Two places that come to mind - The Wazee Supper Club, an old-time Denver institution with very good pizza (for Denver anyway) and lots of good brew. 15th & Wazee, five minute walk from hotel. (http://www.wazeesupperclub.com/)

Another Denver classic is My Brother's Bar at 15th & Platte - fifteen minute walk. (No website, this place is too cool) Bar food and burgers served very casually - this is a drinking establishment first and foremost. Its claim to fame is that Jack Kerouac used to hang here with the Beat Poets back in the day. Lovely patio area out back if the weather's nice. If my friend Jimmy is behind the bar, he'll insult everyone for free!

Superb, thank you all for the input. Casa Bonita is not quite what we're looking for, but thanks. The other places mentioned are definite possibilities.

You guys ever eaten at Steuben's?

Maggianos.

I've eaten at Steuben's a few times when I worked in that neighborhood. It wouldn't be that conducive to a large group given its layout. Food is good but I think pretty overpriced.

Now across the street was a more popular hangout for my office, The Uptown Tavern (17th & Pearl). I really like their food - very decent sandwiches, salads and hot entrees within your price range. Great happy hour - most drinks 2-for-1 from 3:00-7:00. Excellent outdoor area that can accommodate large groups. If you call ahead, they'd save you some tables.
