Denver - Must do/see/eat
Good morning. My husband and his buddies are traveling from Los Angeles to Denver this week to see the Broncos game. They have a free day/night on Friday and are looking for things to do and places to eat. What are your top tier, insider recommendations?

Unless I know what their interests and likes are, it pointless to spend a lot of time recommending place that will not appeal. So are art museums high on their list? Do they prefer McDonalds over Wendys?

Do you know where they are staying? Or if they have a car?
For guys, I’m not thinking chi-chi cuisine. These ideas have mid-priced, people-pleasing menus, some with sports on TVs. In general, Cherry Creek has a number of restaurants and is a fun place to people watch. Kona Grill is good. I think Elway’s is a rip off, with mediocre service. Brio is a chain that’s decent. For a simple BBQ diner, we like Brothers @ 6th & Washington. Or downtown and Larimar Square. Chophouse is good, by Coors Field. Capital Grille if you want to spend money. Rioja is very good. Avenue Grill on 17th. Lots and lots of choices. Do they have certain preferences? Italian, Mexican? |

Probably the best place to eat in Cherry Creek ( BTW it’s Cherry Creek North ) is the Cherry Creek Grill or for a very casual place, the Cherry Cricket. Downtown Denver which includes several neighborhoods has a plethora of pubs, taverns etc. Sorry can’t be specific. Ask at hotel, concierges usually know the best places. |
After talking to my daughter who is much more up to date on the best and most popular restaurants, avoiding the good but stodgy, I suggest Guard and Grace. I believe it’s on California in downtown Denver. Check it out. |

historytraveler, just to clarify, I was referring to all of Cherry Creek. Kona Grill is in the mall, not CC North. I’d say it’s highly debatable that Cherry Creek Grill is the “best place to eat” in Cherry Creek. The steak at Shanahan’s is outstanding, as is everything else on their menu. It’s in the Tech Center and is worth the drive. It would complete their football weekend. Also Capital Grille on Larimar I mentioned is good steak. There’s a Ruth’s Chris steakhouse downtown. I hope they enjoy Denver. |
PS. Forgot you asked for things to see and do, as well as where to eat.
