Is it still possible to take a tour of the Denver Mint?

As of summer 2002, yes.

Ahh, the Denver Mint. We also were thinking of taking the tour. You need to contact your congressman/woman and send them a request in writing. Since 9/11 they are very strict about tours. I just yesterday called my congressman's office in Washington DC and yes they had received my request and then proceeded to tell me what I needed to inform them namely full name, date of birth SS# and date I wanted the tour. Since I have a general idea of when I will be in the area I don't think I can do it as you have to give them date or two and they select the day and time. So good luck, as I am still thinking if I can manage this as we will be traveling through and really can't pin down a time.

Dilly is absolutely correct, you must now follow the procedure formerly in place to visit the Capital, State Department, etc. If you show up w/o reservations, you will be shown a video about mint operations, and OF COURSE allowed to shop in the gift shop. LOL

Yeah, it's a shame. The Denver Mint used to be a huge tourist attraction in Denver - although a little over-rated in my opinion. (I work for the Mint in Washington, DC, so I can say that....)Now it's much harder to get into - but certainly possible with a little advance planning!

Iam going to Colorado and also want to do the Denver Mint. I called the Congressman about two weeks ago -- gave them the date and the approximate time I wanted it and they faxed me back confirmations today. It is a pain to call but it really was not difficult to get the reservations.
