Denver hotel to celebrate "40" birthday
Any suggestions which hotel to celebrate a special birthday? I'm planning a trip to surprise my dear friend for her 40th birthday. (she lives there) I'm not familiar with Denver at all, so your suggestions would be appreciated. We will only spend one night, so budget isn't an issue. Spa would be nice, also. I understand there is a new Four Seasons. Thoughts?

There is also a new Ritz downtown.
There are lots of high end brand name hotels in town, but I suggest The Brown Palace for a real Denver treat, like no other city.
Just be sure to get a room in the original building, not across the street. Tell them it's a special occasion. Get a suite if you can afford it.

Well, if it is the old comfort, DEFINITELY don't pay BP prices to stay unless they completely renovated it. We used it as our hotel when DS got married and it was very adequate and VERY reasonable in price, but the rooms are very small.

I was going to suggest the Monaco but didn't because I've not stayed in the one in Denver. The one in San Francisco is my favorite hotel. I love the decor, the vibe, the attentive service. I think it's a perfect match for two friends celebrating a birthday. They often have special "fun" packages too. On business trips, I couldn't wait to check out of the conference hotel and get to the Monaco for a few days of fun. On one trip a co-worker joined me and we just had a blast = getting mani-pedis, walking to a nearby Thai restaurant, doing a movie night with popcorn. The Kimpton group does a great job with their boutique hotels. Also the Brown Palace is a classic and you can't go wrong with a 4S, I'd choose the Monaco.
