Denver Hotel + Getting to Airport
We've done the Tower Road thing before for early flights out of Denver... it's OK but we think we'd like to try something different this time.
Ideally, we like to drop off our car the afternoon before (somewhere downtown?) and have a comfortable hotel w/ dining options within walking distance, and then either shuttle or rail (not cab) to the airport the next morning. We did this in Portland last year, taking the rail to the airport, and it was great.
Is this do-able? If so, any recommendations?
TIA!

It is doable but--as far as I know there is no light rail from downtown to the airport at the present time. And you will, no doubt, have to pay for parking where ever you leave your car downtown--unless you work downtown and have parking at your place of employment (I do that sometimes).
Your choices of transportation from downtown Denver to the airport include the RTD skyride--leaves from the Market Street station, I think, and takes about 1 hour or something like the Super Shuttle http://www.supershuttledenver.com/. Check with some of the downtown hotels about their shuttle services to the airport--big hotels usually have them.

Ah, in looking at your previous posts, I realize that you are referring to dropping off your rental car in downtown. Most (all) car rental companies have facilities in the downtown area so just set up the drop off there.

It's very easy and comfortable to take the bus to the airport. RTD runs its skyRide coaches from Market Street Station on the 16th St. Mall every half hour most of the day. Go to www.rtd-denver.com and click skyRide on the left, then click Route AF and look at the departure times for "Market Street St. (leave)." Doesn't really matter if you get off at DIA East or West (it's not that wide a terminal building) It's $8.00 exact change for a one-way ticket; there are ticket booths at the station underground.
As far as where to stay downtown, I'd recommend you look into some of the nicer boutique hotels such as Monaco, Magnolia, Teatro or Oxford. They're all within a few blocks of the 16th St. Mall.
