Denver day trip
 

We are planning a trip to Denver in early April. We are traveling from Austrilia and I cannot find a tour that takes us from Denver to Winter park or around that region . Can anyone reccomend anything ?
P S , I am not keen on driving there.

There is a train from Denver to Winter Park, and a shuttle service that used to be called Home James.

Gray Line Tours offers bus tours from Denver to several locations, but not to Winter Park. Unfortunately, their trips to Rocky Mountain National Park or Colorado Springs are only in the summer starting in late May. The problem is that early April is still very much winter weather here - snow is common - and it's not tourist season at all. You will have really no other option but to drive if you want to get further than the suburbs.

You can find out if the ski train is operating when you're in Denver. It goes to the Winter Park ski area and back. Problem is, the ticket is only good for a round-trip that day, so you go up in the early morning and you must leave that afternoon at 4:30 or so.

Another train option is Amtrak. It would also leave from the Denver downtown train depot, and would take you to Fraser (sp?), which is a mile or two north on the highway from Winter Park itself. You might need to call Home James, for a ride to town. Then there's a free shuttle once you're in town, that will take you to the ski area. With Amtrak, you could spend the night if that's your plan.

Home James will also pick you up in Denver and take you to WP, but I imagine it's pretty expensive. But worth asking them.

Is there a particular reason you are looking for a tour for the Winter Park area?

Thanks guys for your responce,Winter park is one of the few areas I can get information on . As myself and my family have never seen snow before a day trip was high on the agenda . We choose Denver mainly to see the Avalanche play and the mountains are a bouns .

If you would like to consider other mountain locations--try this website http://tinyurl.com/2898a3. It's the Colorado tourist website. Click on In the Snow on the first page. Then click on the link to all Colorado ski areas. You can get to each ski areas website from there to check out other options.
Breckenridge is almost as close to Denver as Winter Park and is a town with a gorgeous mountain backdrop.
You still will have the issue of getting there--shuttles from Denver are expensive.
Another option would be a Grayline tour into the foothills west of Denver. http://www.coloradograyline.com/whistle.html The tour goes to Echo Lake--through some beautiful scenery then on to Evergreen, a charming mountain town. There is also a stop at Buffalo Bill's grave and museum. It is less expensive than taking a shuttle to a ski area and would give you mountains and more than likely snow.
