Denver Day Trip
 

I'm travelling into Denver on a Saturday morning and am looking to do an overnight trip in a ski area. I don't really ski, although I'd like to try again, but I do snowshoe. I'd like to do some outside activities by day and options for pubs/restaurants at night. Any suggestions?

There are mountain shuttles from the airport to and from Summit County. Once there, I'd personally choose Breckenridge for a nice town with nightlife plus beautiful scenery and outdoor activities. For a one night stay, that would be a good option.

I agree with Maureen. For dinner, try the Breckenridge Brewery, or for something nicer, the Cafe Alpine.

There is a train that runs from Denver to Winter Park. http://www.skitrain.com/ My guess it is better for day trips than overnight.

Breckenridge is a good place for novice or beginning adult skiers.

Yes, the Winter Park ski train runs weekends, but your round-trip ticket is for one day-trip only -- so you can't stay overnight without buying two round-trips for $44 each. There's also an Amtrak that runs around 8 a.m., for $33 OW, but it stops in Fraser, so you would need transportation back down to the ski area. Then the train leaves Fraser for downtown Denver at 4:30p.m. Too much of a hassle for one night, I think.

Another question, I've been looking into lodging in Breckenridge, and it's becoming a bit overwhelming. I kind of like the idea of staying somewhere "in town", but I'm not sure that's a necessity. Does anyone have a particular favorite, or a rec for a hotel/condo that is going to be less than $300 a night in the heart of everything? Thanks.

Beaver Run Resort has a variety of condo accomodations, including a nice studio suite with a mini-kitchenette. It is ski in/ski out, with covered parking included, an indoor pool, a restaurant or two, and a free shuttle into town and back. We had a family reunion there and everyone enjoyed it.
