Denver,colorado

we will be flying into Denver and staying for 2 nights with 2 adults and 2 kids and will like to take kids for first time skiiing and dog sledding. Any recommendations on hotels and best ski resorts? What is opinion regarding winter park ski resort?

I am not a skier so won’t comment on that. But we did dog sledding with Mountain Mushers outside of Vail and had a great time. It is not cheap but is a lot of fun and you get to spend some good time petting the dogs.

I hope your trip is not on a weekend. I have family in Denver & have heard that typical traffic congestion on Saturday & Sundays can be up to 4 hours to get to even the closest ski resorts.

Are you spending 2 days in Denver and THEN going skiing? In Denver the Natural History museum, zoo, botanical gardens are all good to see. The Denver Art Museum has a wonderful native American collection among other excellent exhibits. the REI store is a fun shopping stop or to see their climbing wall. If there's a basketball game, that could be fun.

Copper Mountain just past Frisco has an excellent ski school. It also has a facility called Woodward where trick skiiers and snowboarders practice by jumping into big toam pools. It is fun for kids to just trampoline or jump in.
I find Winter Park a little isolated in that there is nothing else nearby. HOw long do you expect to ski?

If you do want to go to Winter Park and don't want to be in a traffic jam, take the California Zephyr #5 to Fraser/Winter Park (WIP). The train leaves Denver at 8:05AM (sometimes late). This mornings train came in 10 minutes early from Chicago. Depending on how long you want to ski, you could catch the eastbound train in the late afternoon. The city lights of Denver are beautiful when coming down just after sunset from the Zephyr.

You are in Denver for two nights = 1 full day, and want to go to the mountains?

In that case then the train to Winter Park is possibly your best option. There is dog sledding there as well as skiing.
Choose a hotel near Union Station in Denver.

Highly recommend Devil's Thumb Ranch for you.
Amazingly beautiful eco-setting, awesome service, great activities for everyone.
Cross-country skiing on the ranch, plus horses, hiking, sleigh rides, spa, fabulous dining, Ralph Lauren-esque decor with authentic Western artifacts.

If you take Amtrak to Fraser, a Ranch driver will pick you up.
