Denver area in late September

I am considering visiting the Denver area for 4 days in late September. Is this a good time to go? What is the weather usually like? I'm interested in seeing a bit of the city of Denver and seeing some of the surrounding towns like Idaho Springs and Georgetown. Also interested in seeing Rocky Mountain National Park or going to Colorado Springs to visit Pike's Peak. Any experiences to share?? Thanks.

Dana, <BR>Just recently spent four years in the denver area. Weather that time of year is usually mid 60's to low 70's but fairly cool at night. The majority of things to do in Denver are downtown, or in the Cherry Creek area. LoDo which stands for lower downtown is a fun area. Many quaint shops and restaurants. U.S. mint is also ok. 16th. street mall is a must. Basically they took 16th. street and turned it into a pedestrain mall. It runs about 12-15 blocks. Idaho Springs and Georgetown are Ok, but pretty much just old mining towns. Go further up I-70 to Frisco and Breckenridge and see the aspen trees turn color. Would definately recommend Rocky Mountain National Park. It's a day trip so you may want to plan accordingly. Go through the north entrance at Estes Park. Trail Ridge Road which runs through the park at its highest points closes Oct. 1 if I'm not mistaken. Pikes Peak is allright but doesn't compare to RMNP, pretty much name recognition. Have been to both and RMNP will blow you away. Any other questions please ask.

We loved Colorado Springs - Pike's Peak, Air Force Academy, Garden of the Gods, Olympic training center. RMNP is nice - but avoid on weekends - it's a madhouse (even in Sept)

Late Sept is a great time to visit Colorado. Daytime temps are great, lots of sun, side trips to them mountains. A great place to view aspens changing color is in Cripple Creek. The local chamber of commerce (or equivalent) gives jeep tours through the mining areas.
