Thank you all so much! I am very grateful for your guidance. We are coming from NYC, fmpden. We’ll put our trip to Glenwood in the middle and leave plenty of time to catch the train. Children’s museums tend to be for very young kids so we’ll skip that one and aim for the art museum instead. Sounds like we will have plenty to do!

The art museum is WONderful and particularly (to me) its Native American exhibits!

You could also take Amtrak from Denver for a shorter trip. Get off at Fraser, CO.
Splurge a little and stay at Devil's Thumb Ranch. A 7-year old would love all the animals there. Lodging rates should be lower in April. Cabins are most expensive, the Lodge is mid-priced there, and the bunkhouse is their least pricey option, which is still very nice. You would not need a car. They will pick you up and take you back to the train station in Fraser. http://www.devilsthumbranch.com April weather in the mountains will be iffy. Bring layers, and snow/mud boots. |
Ooh, that's an interesting idea, MoBro. I will check it out. Not sure what the offerings will be like in April but it looks promising. Thanks!

Devil's Thumb is a special place. We have gone there since the 70s, when it was just a barn and cross-country skiing. The current owner is doing an amazing job of protecting the land.
