Denali accomodation / car hire Talkeetna

We are planning on taking the train from Anchorage to Talkeetna in August and wondered how easy it is to hire a car for 4 persons at Talkeetna and use it to drive/use in Denali. Also wondering about accommodation around Denali and as we will have a car will be able to stay a bit further out.
Has anyone hired a car from/ to Talketna and also can you recommend accomodation in the Denali area.

We stayed in Healy in the Touch of Wilderness bed & breakfast and loved it! The 49th Street Brewery was a great place to have lunch. Enjoy your trip too Alaska!

You can take the train from Talkeetna to Denali. There are several places to stay in the town there and there are shuttles from the train station to most of the lodging. There are also shuttles from the lodging to the park and the only way you can go most of the way into the park is on a bus that is authorized by the park service. Private cars are not allowed past the first few miles of the park.

If you google Denali lodging you will find lots of choices. There are a couple of places to stay in the park, but dining choices would be very limited for them I would guess.

Have a wonderful trip.

May just want to take the train to Denali or a shuttle. My 2 cents is to rent a car in Anchorage or Fairbanks. You can get one pretty cheap if you plan ahead. You may also may want to pick up the following books, Discovering Denali and the Milepost.

We rented a car at the airport in Anchorage. The roads north were good. We stayed at the Native American owned Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge, beautiful place and it has knockout views of Denali.
