Delta Voucher exchange deadlines-Please help

I have received a delta voucher as a result of electing to give up my airplane seat on an overbooked plane. At the time I elected to give up my seat I was told that I had to purchase my ticket by the expiration date on the voucher (but I could fly after the expiration date), When I went to exchange my voucher for tickets at a local ticket agency I was told I had to fly by the expiration date on the voucher or lose the voucher! Has anyone had experience with this matter and how did they resolve it?

Call the airline's 800 number. The rules on tickets can be very complicated. Don't assume the person that you spoke understood them correctly.

If you don't get someone that gives you the right answer. Hang up and call back until you get someone on the line that understands the issue. Have them make a reservation. Take the tickets to the ticket office. If there is a problem, make sure you have the name of the person that you spoke to in reservations.

HUH?! I always thought you had to TICKET BY and not FLY BY. Find someone who makes more than $6.00/hour to help you at Delta.

When we had vouchers to use last year, we thought we would have to fly by the expiration date but were pleasantly surprised when we were told the tickets only had to be purchased by that date. We exchanged them at the Delta ticket counter at the airport and did fly after the expiration date. I'd keep trying. Good luck! Laurie

When we got the vouchers we were told we had to ticket by (not fly by). Does anyone have any ideas about how I can get Delta to honor what they told me at the time I gave up my seats?

Everyone you talk to will give you a different answer and no one will care. Keep calling until you get someone who gives you the correct answer. Good luck!

Even if you don't TICKET by the expiration date, the voucher isn't worthless. You simply have to deduct $75 from its value for a 'rebooking fee'.

How does that rebooking fee work? Do I buy a ticket, then not use it, then "rebook"? Or is it something else?
