Delta Voucher easy to use

FYI in case you ever have a chance to get bumped in exchange for a voucher.

I had read several posts here that Delta vouchers were hard to cash in or even that they tripled the price when they found out someone had a voucher.

Delta has ticket offices in a in the Dallas area so I didn't even have to go all the way out to DFW airport. (You have to go to a ticket counter)

There was absolutely no problem getting the day and time I wanted. When I commented that using the voucher was easier than I had heard, they said vouchers were the same as cash.

Some vouchers are for a specific amount. Some are for a "free roundtrip." The former are easy to use as they are indeed just like cash. The latter are MUCH harder to use and are usually capacity control, have Saturday night restrictions, etc etc etc

If you get bumped, the voucher they give you is basically good as cash. You can book on the same flights. And I believe most airlines let you just give them the certificate number over the phone, and just surrender the voucher anytime up to check-in.

Delta requires you to go to a ticket counter to cash in the voucher. They made that very clear.

Glad to know the difference in voucher and "free roundtrip". I plan to volunteer in the future, if time allows. I'll know not to unless they say "cash voucher". It's not worth it if it's a big hassle to use the ticket.

I know for a fact that DL and AA will need you to surrender your voucher. No such thing as a number over the phone.

AA gives you three choices. Once you put your res on hold(online, phone or whatever), you tell them you want to use a voucher. You have a choice of a city ticket office (not many left :-( ), airport or you could mail it in. The only restriction on mailing the voucher is that it has to be at least 2 weeks before the flight. Once AA receives the voucher by one of the above mentioned ways, you will be ticketed and a confirmation will be e-mailed or mailed.

It's a simple procedure and as Dan aleady stated a "cash voucher" is the way to go. It's the same as cash.

This site will show you what people were offered or received when bumped:

Thanks for the clarifications. I stand corrected.
