Delray Beach area restaurants
 

Looking for recs for good eats in this general area. We will have a car and don't mind driving... Prefer local, non chain and enjoy "Florida" old style restaurants or local eats on the ocean or a waterway. Any style food is OK ...

We visited Delray in May and did a lot of checking before we went. Here are our top choices.
East coast, particularly New England, seafood at Boston's On The Beach in Delray. They are on A1A, 1/2 block south of Atlantic Ave. Owners are transplanted Bostonians. Ocean view from the outdoor dining areas. Funky atmosphere, with lots of Red Sox paraphenalia. They serve mountains of fresh seafood, expertly prepared, at very reasonable prices. Lots of Maine lobster, Ipswich clams, and everything else from the sea.
More upscale is Old Calypso, just south of Atlantic Ave., on the intracoastal waterway. Indoor and outdoor dining. Lunch and dinner. One of the best Sunday brunch menus and preparation we have ever seen.
Bistro du Village, excellent and reasonably-priced French food @ 4251 N.
Federal Hwy. in Boca Raton.(it is on the north side of Boca, so really close
to Delray.
Kyoto off Atlantic Ave. Expertly prepared sushi and other Japanese dishes.
Station House Restaurant in Lantana, just past Boynton Beach to the north.
Excellent seafood house.

I also like Boston on the Beach (sit on the veranda upstairs for a view of the ocean). Right next door is Cafe Luna Rosa for great brunch. Busch's is good for seafood al fresco on the intercoastal.

We used to go to the Sundy House, but one time had to walk through where someone got sick to their stomach near (but didn't make it all the way to) the bathroom.

I like the Sundy House. It's not on the water though. It's old and has tropical gardens, which are really pretty. You can also stay there. I really liked the food. I've heard it's been sold and there's talk it might be torn down, which is a shame. There's another restaurant my mom told me is good on Atlantic Ave, but I can't remember the name.
