Deli food in NYC ?
I love Deli food.
Where to go in May in NYC for real Deli Food ?
( please no Carnegie Deli Style).
Thank you, Fodors experts!
What "style" are you looking for?
Second Avenue Deli (2nd Avenue & 10th Street). However, like the previous poster, I'm not sure about your definition of "style"!
Katz Deli on E.Houston is a landmark. Their pastrami sandwich will make you do a Meg Ryan in When HM Sally, where that scene was filmed coincidentally.
Another vote for Katz! Pastrami on rye with mustard, Yum!
Another great deli is barney greengrass on amsterdam and 86th. amaaaazing smoked fish. it's a zoo on weekend brunches so go early.
You are all making me hungry.
The Stage Deli or Roxy's.
Another vote for Roxy. Make sure you're really hungry, though.
Denise, I wouldn't classify Barney Greegrass as a deli. A true NYC deli does not serve Smoked fish.

Don't miss Veselka which is on
2nd avenue in the east village.
the cross street is 9th street.
it is a deli/diner and its Polish.
So there is no pastrami there.
get the Bigos - its huge!!!
Second Ave deli is kosher, so there
is no dairy products there.
My preference is Sarge's on 3rd Ave around 37th. It is a little smaller, but the menu is awesome.
We we to the Carnegie Deli yesterday due to it's proximity to the theatre...the sandwiches are huge and you can share for $3.00.. but the stuff is tasteless..our NJ friends couldn't understand why people were waiting in line.
