"del" v. loews in san diego

Just booked a flight to san diego to take my little ones to see the "big sights" (zoo, sea world, etc.) for spring break (april). This will be our first time traveling together to San Diego and we are conflicted between staying at the Loews Coronado Bay and the historic "Del". I love the history of the later, but am really gearing this trip towards my little ones who are ages 4 and 6. We originally thought that the Loews was more kid friendly and that the Del might be too crazy (too many people, waits in line) and have booked there. However, after doing a bit more research, the Del sounds wonderful and charming - closer to the beach and offers activities for children. Finally, a big part of the trip (we are traveling from Seattle) will be swimming in the outdoor pool. Man,I am so torn. This is really a trip for the kids - but my husband and I appreciate nice accomodations / service. Would so appreciate any insight - advice. Thank you in advance!

Hands down the Del..There is the towers(new) and the hotel(old) but very nice..Beautiful property..
Voted top 10 beach in the US.. The Brigantine across the street has the best Happy Hour with Grilled Fish Tacos for $2.50 and Chowder and fab Marg's..Super cheap and yum!! Very Kid friendly.. www.brigantine.com
Great city to chill with kids.. go to the brewery at the end of the island..
Loew's is wonderful but I think it is more an adult crowd.. Brunch is really good too..strolling, biking, eating well and relaxing are the call for Coronado..
Have Fun!

Personally, I would look at the reviews on TripAdvisor VERY carefully. Assume you'll have a rental car to get you from Coronado to where all of those attractions you really want to visit are located.

The Del is right in town and thus walkable to everything in Coronado. It may be more expensive than the Loews but I think the conveniece of being right in town is worth it unless you'll be spending all of your time over in San Diego. Your kids will love being able to have the beach right outside the hotel and also the pool. There are several very good restaurants just a short walk from the Del.

If you do chose the Del,you may be better off staying in the newer tower. The older section has REALLY thin walls, and I think you would have to worry more about how much noise the kids were making. We have vacationed in this area for the last 3 Aprils, and for the most part, it was too cool for swimming-temps. in the 60's.Pick one that has a heated outdoor pool-I can't remember if the Del's was heated or not.

I'd go with the Del for all the reasons already mentioned.

Don't think you'll be swimming much in April.

Thank you so much - all of you - for your insight - really appreciate it. I'm bummed that it will likely be too cool to swim - for some reason I picture SD as balmy and warm 365 day a year :) I'm going to continue to research rates on the Del - we would love a room w/a bit of space as we will be there for 7 days with two little guys - will keep you posted - thank you again!
