Deerfield Beach?

We are from Boston and are looking to go away for a week at the end of June with a 12, 17 and 18 year old. The Embassy Suites in Deerfield Beach was suggested. Any thoughts? What is the Deerfield Beach area like?

It's ok but mostly just another undifferentiated suburban name in the long chain of places along the coast, this one north of Pompano Beach which is north of Ft. Lauderdale, on the way to Palm Beach. If you don't mind driving a ways to get to the main attractions--like Palm Beach and Ft. Lauderdale--it's an ok place to get a less expensive room with a pool that will be fine for your family. If you really want to be in the center of things with lots going on, bite the bullet and find something actually in Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale or even Miami.

Deerfield Beach is the next town below Boca Raton where there's plenty of shopping (Boca Town Center & Mizner Park), restaurants etc. There are also some decent restaurants in Deerfield Beach. One of my favorites is The Cove which is a casual place on the intracoastal with both indoor & outdoor dining. The same shopping mall has several other restaurants.

Another option to consider is the Marriott in Delray Beach. This hotel sits on the ocean at the end of a main st. (Atlantic Ave.) lined with restaurants on both sides so you can walk to dinner at night.

Bottom line, I don't think Deerfield is a bad option (although I don't know the Embassy Suites per se).

The area is not exciting for teen-agers but it is a good beach and the hotel is right there and is a good Embassy Suites.Good value. If you have a car, you can get lots of places. Deerfield Beach is more residential and older folks.

I have to agree with McLaurie about Delray. I lived there for a few years and it is my favorite part of the area between Ft. Lauderdale and Palm Beach. There is much more to do and it is much more pleasing to the eye than Deerfield. There are actually 2 marriots in Delray--on right on A1A and Atlantic and the other about 1 block East on Atlantic. Delray has tons of restuarants and cute shops which are all within walking distance and has a nice beach. Plus if you want more shopping, from the Beach to Town Centre or Mizner it is about 15 minutes and for even better shopping Palm Beach is about 25 minutes away. The only downside to Delray right now is that there is a bunch of traffic off of I-95...but if you stay near the beach it shouldn't be a problem. PLUS...if you are from Boston, you will probably enjoy "Bostons"! It is a cute little beach bar with typical Florida on the beach food and slightly finer dining upstairs. Monday nights (I believe is Reggae night) and is a great time. Be sure to check out Sopra and Dadas for dinner...although I could go on and on about the great places to eat! Have fun!

We stayed at the Embassy suites Deerfield with 2 teenagers. The hotel itself is very nice, and I loved the large rooms, breakfast buffet, and afternoon cocktails. The pool area is okay, nothing fancy. the beach area is also okay-alittle rocky and not as nice as the Ft. Lauderdale beaches. A better choice in my opinion would be a suite at Lago Mar , Marriott Harbor beach, or Marriott beach place towers (condos and hotel rooms). All are in Ft. Lauderdale.
