Deep South Road Trip

My mom, sister and I are wanting to plan a Southern road trip for the end of June. We live in Dallas, Tx and only have a week for this roadtrip. There are so many places to go but based on our time frame I would like some suggestions on the best places to see/stay/eat etc. We don't want to be driving too far so we are thinking of staying in the Louisiana and Mississippi regions. We'd like to stay at a cool beach at least one day, definitely visit New Orleans and Nachez. We love staying in unique little places, not huge fans of big hotel chains but we won't be picky, we're on a budget! Would love to see some old plantations and historical sites. Basically we just need a starting point, help please! :)

I would take I-20 to Shreveport, then LA-1 south to Natchitoches ( proununced "Nakadish". The movie Steel Magnolias was filmed there and it is a pretty little town with B&B's and hotels. It's a great place to stay overnite.

Continue south on 1 to Natchez. From there either stay on 1, take 71 to Baton Rouge and then I-10 to New Orleans. After New Orleans you can take I-10 and/or 90 East into Mississippi. 90 will have the most sceanery

1 thru Louisana will have many plantations you can stop and visit.

I meant to say "either stay on 1, or take 71 to Baton Rouge"

1 is the more sceanic with more plantations to see, but slower
