Dedham, Mass-Where to get T?
 

If we are staying in Dedham, Mass and want to take public transportation into Boston, where would we get the T? Is there plenty of parking at the T-stop? <BR> Vanetta

Vanetta, Dedham is in an awkward area of the Boston metro area; inside route 128 and so just ten miles or so from the center of Boston, but relatively underserved by public transportation. The subway system extends west of Boston (via the Green line) and south of Boston (via the Red and Orange lines) but Dedham is southwest. <BR> <BR>There is commuter rail service at two locations in Dedham, but commuter rail's schedules aren't designed with tourists in mind. Also, trains go to just two locations in Boston -- South Station and Back Bay; moreover there is no single-fare tie to the "T" subway system, which adds to both the annoyance and the expense. <BR> <BR>I'd consider two possibilities: 1) don't stay in Dedham, or 2) stay in Dedham but drive the 20 minutes or so to one of the T stations with a garage (Quincy Adams on the Red line in Braintree or Woodland on Rte. 16 off of 128 in Newton). The thing I wouldn't recommend is yielding to the temptation to drive into Boston, even though it's just ten miles. Parking -- if you can find it -- will set you back $20 or more per day and you'll find it takes the better part of an hour to drive that ten miles. <BR> <BR>Enjoy Boston, though, this is a great time of year to be here.

You could also drive over to Needham (next town to Dedham) and take a train into Boston. Again, check the mbta schedules. Personally, I don't think the drive into Boston is a big deal but parking can be pricey.

You can't take the T. You will need to get a commuter rail from either University Station (exit 13 off 128), Hyde Park, Reading, and Dedham corporate (by the hilton). Its cheap but be careful because the commuter rail stops going in and out really early. After rush hour it runs once an hour. <BR> <BR>A cab costs about $30.
