Decent Hotel somewhat near to LAX for a Saturday night

We are going to San Diego but flying home out of LAX later on Sunday afternoon. I would like to drive closer on Saturday and make it easier to get to the airport and return the car, etc. It is my mom and I. We are going to drive up the coast from San Diego. We need to be at LAX at 2:30 ish on Sunday. Any recommendations for somewhere to stay that would be an easy drive? On or near the water? I haven't been to LA in over 20 years so have no clue where to stay. Would like to be around $100 for the night. I am able to use hotwire and other sites.

Not near the water, but I would go to the Hilton Garden Inn in El Segundo. AAA, AARP, or Senior 65+ rate of $107 all-in. Or a B&B rate of $127.

Add the Doubletree in El Segundo, the LAX Hilton and the LAX Westin to the list at $110 or less.

And Springhill Suites (Marriott) on the border of Hawthorne and Manhattan Beach.

Free parking out front at the Hilton Garden Inn and in a garage, I think, at the Doubletree. Pay parking at the Hilton and access is not easy like the first two, but it might be possible to walk from the rental car lot to the Hilton after dropping of the car Sat. night, but it is a bit spooky. All have shuttles to LAX. The Westin doesn't offer any benefit over the others unless you need the Starpoints.

I live in San Diego, but when my sister came to town, we did a long day trip to Laguna Beach and LA and stayed overnight at the Doubletree LAX in El Segundo. It has free parking, and a shuttle to LAX (which we didn't use). I got the room for $90 on wotif.com.

Rooms for Nov 16 are currently $96 + $4 booking fee on wotif. You can book directly with the hotel for $$117.72, including tax. I've never had a problem booking through wotif, but I know some people prefer to book directly with the hotel.

Here are some more hotels in El Segundo in your price range:

Sunday noon traffic isn't usually bad at all, you don't have to be really close to LAX. But the Hyatt Place El Segundo, very close to LAX, has a $117 senior rate with parking and breakfast included, and you can probably get late checkout.

It's called Hyatt House in El Segundo and, unlike some of the other El Segundo properties mentioned, is within walking distance of restaurants in all price ranges, a grocery store, pharmacy, etc. Many people think it's in Manhattan Beach, and there's a bus stop nearby for local service to downtown Manhattan Beach.

I already paid for the rental car until 2 on Sunday, so we don't need a shuttle, but if we could lounge around some and have breakfast, that would be nice. I will look these up. Thanks for your help

Oregononmom - I have had two friends stay at the Crowne Plaza in Redondo beach - it often is awarded on Priceline. It is about 7 miles from LAX but on beach. It is not fancy but could fit the bill.

A hotel in Santa Monica Which is about 20 minutes up Lincoln blvd to LAX, is the Ambrose hotel. It costs about $220 per night, is the first certified green hotel, and has a great free breakfast of bakery goods plus coffee from the best coffee shop in Los Angeles, Intelligentsia. You will have time to take a quick walk along Venice beach or the Santa Monica promenade. Then head up to LAX without the worry of hitting traffic on the freeway

I liked the Renaissance (got a rate around $100) or Hilton LAX (got a $50 rate with a best price guarantee claim). I think there are some Marriotts near LAX and also a beach, maybe Manhattan Beach? Never stayed there, though.

"A hotel in Santa Monica Which is about 20 minutes up Lincoln blvd to LAX, is the Ambrose hotel." This hotel could be as much as 40 minutes' drive beyond/north of LAX, and you'd have to allow 30+ minutes to drive to the car rental return area on Sunday. The Ambrose charges $20/night for parking.

Marina Del Rey isn't too far from LAX. There are a number of options in this area.

Would second the vote that you explore your options in Marina del Rey.

We were meeting friends for dinner in Los Angeles after getting off the plane, and our friends picked a place there because it was so close and we wouldn't need to fight traffic during rush hour.

I just re-read the OP, and I didn't catch she was staying over this Saturday night when I posted before.

I opened Travelocity and for Marina del Rey, it looks like there's a Doubletree by Hilton for $118, but that is later in the month. It's $159 for this Saturday night. Possible you could get it for closer to budget on priceline's secret sales.
