December in New York City questions...Radio City Music Hall, timing?

We are planning on visiting New York City in mid-December. We are planning going to the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular (fulfilling a campy childhood dream).

Should I expect Midtown to be more crowded on the weekend (say Dec 15-16) or would during the week (Dec 13-14) before be better or does it make no difference?

Any tips on discounted tickets for the show (Mom, Dad, kids)? Thanks for any suggestions...we haven't been to New York since 2002.

That's a really busy time but weekends will be more crowded than weekdays. There should be discounts on the left column of broadwaybox.com, there are usually same day tickets at the tkts booths (tdf.org/tkts) and they typically have a buy one get one free offer in the fall. Sgn up for emails from radiocity.com and check the forum as people usually post offershere.

My only recommendation is get there early since the show does not have an intermission. The restrooms at Radio City are wonderful and should be seen and used by all.

The city is equally crowded at all times ... quite uncomfortably so. Just make sure you approach Radio City from north of 50th Street or from the 6th Avenue side. There are usually crushingly scary crowds around Rock Center, particularly at night to see the tree. The day is less busy than the night, at least immediately around Rockefeller Center.

We were in NYC in December a couple of years ago, and we also went to the Radio City Musical Hall CHristmas Spectacular. It was great! We really enjoyed it. It was very crowded before and after the show. When we were there, NYC had a cold snap, and it was REALLY cold and windy. We had brought extra layers, and we definitely needed them. So maybe you should check the weather forecast right before you get there. Have fun on your trip!

In Dec you can be lucky and get 45 and sunny - or 30 and sleet or 20 and snow. (The latter is less likely - but possible.)

But it is almost always damp, since you are right next tothe harbor and between 2 rivers it is often windy (channeled into the streets by the tall buidlings) and if you go out on the water (and at least one boat trip is recommended) that can be way colder.

So - come prepared

For the crowds
For the weather
For all of the great things to see and do

And, if in doubt, make reservations to avoid long waits due to the huge number of tourists (and locals on the weekends).
