Death Valley with fullsize sedan car or SUV ?
Going to rent a car in L.A. and heading to DV, I am wondering which kind of car to take and how road conditions are to following points off US 190, assuming that Alamo rental company allows it:

Scotty's Castle
Ubehebe Crater
Zabriskie Point
Dante's View
Badwater Basin
other suggestions ? We have 2 full days

Is a higher clearance car like a standard SUV needed or is a fullsize sedan car ok ?

your trip made me curious - here's what the park service has to say

It notes that most rental vehicles are not allowed off paved roads and if you have a rental vehicle, it lists some equipment you should make sure is in the car. There's a link to a company that rents modified jeep for offroad use.

thanks a lot !

I now have to figure out which ones are paved and which ones not. Good dirt roads should not be a problem. I will skip the rest. No offroad at all.

All the sights you listed are on paved roads. No need for SUV unless that's your preference.

The roads to Scotty's Castle, the VC, Artists Pallet Drive, Badwater, Devil's golf course, Borax Iron works are all on roads that are either paved or have a short well maintained gravel section into a parking area. None of them require high clearance at all. I'm not sure about Ubhebe crater.

There are several other areas that are not paved and some are on very primitive roads, but you won't be going on them so no worry.
