Death Valley National Park
Need info on Death Valley NP. Worth a trip? I don't hear much about this NP.
|
Certainly worth a visit. Best time to visit is in the winter months. You can get in depth info on the park at www.nps.gov. Click on "Visits to Parks".

John,
We visited Death Valley last SUMMER -- summer being the only time we can travel with our kids. Yes, it was hot -- our van thermometer registered 120. Was it unbearable? No. It truly IS dry heat. Would we do it again? In a heartbeat. We wanted to see it, and we did. It's an incredible park. We also tried to stay at one of the two lodges; both were full so there ARE other people like us! lol

The drive in and out was a little tricky --- somewhat mountainous and in the heat, we watched our gauges carefully.

An interesting side note: While there, we noticed several BMW's being tested... and we also noticed two BMW's being TOWED OUT by Pontiac Grand Prix's! It was a very interesting addition to our Western Adventure Vacation!
We visited Death Valley in late September. It was extremely desolate but wonderfully scenic & serene. The temperature was about 90-95, but very bearable. Drop off at the Armagosa Hotel & Opera House in Death Valley Junction. We saw the Furnace Creek Inn, Stovepipe Wells, Hell's Gate, but missed out on seeing Scotty's Castle. I would visit there again, no problem.

We enjoyed DVNP several years ago. I loved reading about and then seeing the alluvial fans and the craters and sand dunes. Best of all loved Scotty's Castle. Read about all of it ahead, it just enhances the joy as you discover it. A great vacation in summer with dry heat. You will survive!
