Death Valley in Tree Day (Hiking)

Hi all, we plan to visit Death Valley early April for 3 days & like to know if you have any recommended hikes. We like to take at least one hike high up in the mountains. However, we also like the desert...

Any suggestions to interesting and "must see" places are appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I just got back from 5 days trip of hiking and biking in DV. There are plenty of hiking trails..from easy to difficult. Check out this site:http://www.death.valley.national-park.com/hike.htm

So many great choices. Golden Canyon, Sand Dunes. I suggest starting your visit at the visitor Center and talking with a park ranger. Check also books at the gift shop. I can hardly wait to go back and do more hiking in this amazing place

I should add that the site, IL60103 mentioned is a great resource. We used it before our first trip last November. Also, do search on this board under Death Valley.

The dunes at sunrise near Stovepipe Wells are fascinating. Zabriskie Point is another good sunrise point. You are likely to still have snow at the upper elevations. If you are taking a rental car look at www.nps.gov/deva/FrameSet_roads.htm. for a warning and description of roads. Your best bet for a high view is off the paved road at Dante's View.
