For cheeses and all kinds of yummy imported items from Italy, my absolute favorite is DiPalo's in Little Italy. Ask for Sal (one of the owners, he really knows his stuff. I believe the store has been around for at least 60 years. Located at 200 Grand St.

Just for the record -- there are no seats at the window bar of D&D. They got rid of them some time ago, so now the bar is strictly stand-up only. D&D still worth the trip, but not if you're looking for a place to rest your feet. Around the corner, on Crosby between Prince and Houston is a neat place to sit for coffee, though. Used Book Store Cafe. Lots of comfy worn easy chairs to sit and read and a little cafe bar in the back for coffee, snacks and light lunch. And I always get cool books there -- and the $ goes to a charity that helps out with housing for people with HIV/AIDS.
