Our family will be traveling to NYC to visit out daughter in the convent over valentine's weekend. I was wondering if any hotels are advertising weekend specials for this time. Any help is appreciated, especially since we are driving 1000 miles!!

Unfortunately Valentines is a popular and expensive time in NYC. Dinner in many restaurants is very expensive, hotels also , for those couples celebrating.
It is not too early to be calling and finding rooms right away!
Do you have an area or hotel in mind? Do a lot of research!

Agree with Scarlett. Packages are likely to be pricey for that particular weekend.

In fact, I find package deals, in general, not to be very favorably priced.

If your dates are set, recommend trying Quikbook or Hotwire for the best hotel rates. I prefer Hotwire. Best is to consult a map, so you can determine where the Hotwire areas are located relative to your daughter's convent.

We are going next week, and we got the Millenium Broadway on Times Square for $112 per night (normally $153 on expedia.com). Pretty cheap!

You might try The Best Western Woodard. I believe it is on 55th & 7th. Somewhere in that area. It was very convenient to everything that we wanted. It was not a fancy place of course but it was not too shabby either. We would stay there again. Anyway, we paid $85 dollars per night. I found the price on their website. I noticed that the prices would fluctuate from day to day. On their website I believe the rates start low for the standard rooms then get higher as you look at the better rooms, of course, but what you may miss is sometimes the lowest prices are at the bottom of the page past the highest room rates. I have found that to be true when booking that hotel & many times while looking for hotel rooms in Europe on Best Western International.

I would try hotwire first but the Woodard is worth checking the website. They may have had a name change but you should be able to find it anyway.

Still the Woodward and it is at 55th and Broadway.

Actually, the Best Western Woodard became the Majestic Hotel about a year ago. They've done some renovation of the public areas; I think the guest rooms were renovated when it was still the Best Western. Great location!

However, two recent reviews of The Majestic at newyork.citysearch.com were very poor....

I wouldn't worry too much about the citysearch comments. Just ask for a nice room & if you are not satisfied with it tell them so they can move you.

You posting does not indicate where the convent located, and whether you want to be near it or if you would prefer to stay in Manhattan. If the convent is in the Bronx, you might want to stay in Westchester county and just go into Manhattan for a day, etc. Westchester has lots of hotels, many of which run specials on weekends. If the convent is in Queens, you might want to stay in a suburban Long Island hotel.

I think the Valentine's Day fear is a bit overrated, as there are tons of hotels in NYC and February is not a prime tourist month, too cold and the Christmas season is over. I was just on hotwire.com and saw some very good offers for Manhattan hotels for Valentine's Day Weekend, like 4 to 4.5 stars at $149 to $154 per night. Take a look at hotwire. If you haven't used hotwire.com, note that they do not use the hotel names, only location and star ratings. You only will learn the name of the hotel after you have made a confirmed reservation with a credit card. However, in my experience, as long as you choose a 4 star hotel or better, you should be pleased with the hotel. There is a website called betterbidding.com which can help you figure out which hotels hotwire is referring to so you can have some comfort before you place your non-refundable reservation. For example, the 4.5 star in "Mid-town East" is usually the Barclay Intercontinental or the Waldorf, both excellent hotels in great locations.

Given what I just saw on Hotwire, I would suggest you call or go to the website for the Barclay and the Waldorf and see what they are offering, and/or ask them to match the hotwire.com price.

Also consider less-than-prime tourist locations like the Wall Street area in downtown Manhattan, where there are many hotels, including a Marriott (Marriott.com). It is easy to get around by subway from the downtown areas.
