From Atlanta, $278 seems high. We booked recently for an end of May-early June business/pleasure trip and paid only $216 RT from Ft Lauderdale. I would think that since Atlanta is such a big hub, you could find a better deal. Maybe it doesn't work that way, but I'd keep checking. The room rate seems reasonable, but of course that depends on where you're staying....and whether it's a mid week or weekend rate. Have you been checking Orbitz, Travelscape/Expedia and Travelocity? We seem to always find deals on one of them.

Try America West. http://www.americawest.com/homeIE.asp
They have flights under $270 out of Atlanta and check the vacation packages. Sometimes they have great deals, other times they're only expensive hotels.
If you want to go as cheap as possible, consider staying in a motel off the strip, instead of the big names. Of course I prefer them when I can afford it, but last time I was there I stayed at the Quality Inn Key Largo, $30-50 per night. Average rooms, nothing fancy, but not a dump. They had a pool, hot tub, and slots. The Hard Rock is next door and they have a shuttle to some of the other casinos. We drove to the strip, enjoyed the luxury of the other casino's, and just slept & used the pool at our place for a fraction of the cost.
