DC/Arlington area hotel help needed

Hi everyone! I am starting to panic because we are tied into the first week of August for vacation and I have nothing planned. I am trying to find a decent, clean hotel under $200 a night near the Metro - we will not have a car. Usually we like to have breakfast included because we (especially the two boys) are breakfast eaters. However, we can manage. Right now I am looking at Arlington Residence Court Hotel, GW Inn, The Melrose, maybe Jury's. I would appreciate your opinions. I have been reading other DC posts and I am so confused. Maybe there is a little gem I don't know about. I have never used Priceline or Travelzoo and I need to be able to cancel the reservation if necessary. I usually book through the hotel's website. Oh - we are staying (hopefully) from Mon. through Sat. Thank you in advance for your help.

We've stayed at The Key Bridge Marriott and the Hyatt, both near the Rosslyn Metro Station.

You may be able to get a room in August for under your $200 price. Dunno about an included breakfast.

Great views of Georgetown Univ and DC from the Key Bridge
Marriott.

Travelzoo is a snap, and since you're often making the reservation directly with the hotel, I've found many of the deals to be cancelable - just make sure you read the fine print (if you book online) or make the reservation over the phone. Priceline only really works for 1-2 people per room, though you could get 2 rooms.

Also, look into the Embassy Suites. It's about half way between the Foggy Bottom and Dupont Metro stations, and has a free hot/cold breakfast, 2 tvs per room, a living room, and a kitchenette. Also, a pool. You can get a 2 room suite for $200-225 a night (depending on the number of beds you need) for your dates.

Enjoy your trip!

My friend and I got a 2 bed studio suite with kitchen at the Residence Inn, Pentagon City for $169 pn + taxes for mid August. It has 2 double beds and a sofa pullout. However, I think the price may have risen since then - we booked several months ago.

The Doubletree in Crystal City can be had for close to $200/night. Don't forget to check AAA rates as they can save quite a bit when they are available. It is a couple of blocks from the Pentgon City Metro Station.

Take a look at the Hilton Garden Inn in Arlington (not sure of the prices)...it is one block from the Courthouse Metro stop on the Orange Line and very near thatres, restaurants, etc., all within easy walking distance.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites Washington D.C. - at the Chevy Chase Pavilion last summer. We were very happy with the accomodations -great free breakfast, lots of room in the suite, microwave and refrigator.

It is right inside a mall and the metro is below the mall - you don't even have to go outside.

There are restaurants and stores in the neighborhood. For myself, husband and 16 year old son, it worked out well. After very full days, we just wanted to come back, eat and then crash for the night...

We stayed at the Golden Tulip Bethesda Court Hotel several years ago and liked it. It is a few blocks from Metro and within walking distance of lots of good restaurants, including some for breakfast. The hotel had a continental breakfast we ate once, but it wasn't special.
The Embassy Suites Washington DC, as mentioned, is in a very good location for dining and shopping, but it is more expensive than the Golden Tulip (if that matters).
