DC to Milwaukee

My senior-aged-but-healthy mom has a fondness for her hometown (Racine, WI) and the Milwaukee Germanfest. She typically makes two trips there each summer.

Problem is, airports kind of scare her and the only nonstop trips from DC to Milwaukee are via Reagan National airport, which is about an hour away (in good traffic).

She and three of us kids live just 10 minutes from Dulles! Unfortunately, flights from Dulles are not nonstop to Milwaukee, and her one shuttle experience from Sterling to Reagan was a nightmare. Likewise, she's a little scared of changing planes at Atlanta or Chicago.

So, do any of you have good experiences, ideas, tips, etc. for: 1) easy ground transportation for her from Sterling to Reagan aiport, 2) no-hassle flights from Dulles to Milwaukee, 3) any other advice?

We do love our mom and she does love WI, and of course, we'll keep schlepping to Reagan for drop off and pick up if we have to. We're just looking for any suggestions for other options.

Thanks!

Racine is south of Milwaukee. You may want to investigate IAD-ORD and use a shuttle from O'Hare.

Not saying it's better than going to DCA. Just an option worth looking into.

If she is worried about shuttles, I wouldn't do the shuttle from Ord to Racine.. Have you checked into Midwest Express that flies from Washington National to Milw nonstop ?.. Keep schelepping her if its more comfortable for her - you won't regret it ! I shop in both Racine and Milwaukee so I know both areas very well. Tell her Burlington says hi and her loving children should take her to Washington National for their own piece of mind !!

Just a suggestion, but what about www.amtrak.com? About $700 r/t in a private sleeper. Dinner and breakfast included in the fare. Both trips are overnight, but it's much less stressfull, especially since she is somewhat apprehensive about air travel.

In Chicago, at the Chicago Union station she can connect to www.megabus.com to Milwaukee for $2.50 r/t.
