DC to Detroit (via Cleveland?) back thru Pittsburgh--Winter Road Trip HELP

My 12 year old and I are roadtripping from DC to Detroit to visit family and then back thru Pittsburgh and then home. He has nixed the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - we need to stop once on the way there - Cleveland seems the best bet but am open to a longer trip if a better stop comes to mind; and we will probably stop once between Detroit and Pittsburgh. Help! What can entertain a 12 year old boy (that isn't sitting outside? Winter Classic will be enough of that!

Hi Sandra, We have lots of summertime activities in the Cleveland area but winter is a little harder. Other then Rock and Roll we have a great Museum with Plantetarium :http://www.grandparents.com/gp/event...useumsexhibits
Sandusky has a waterpark that my children have taken their children to: http://themeparks.about.com/od/indoo...aterpark-Ohio/

If the trip is any time soon, and you've been watching the news, the snow belt has between two and four feet. Take a little extra time and stay south of Cleveland. Get off the PA TPK at I 70 head to Columbus, then take 23 north to 75 into Detroit. Depending on your night in Columbus, the Blue Jacket NHL team and Ohio State basketball are great activities.

If you decide to stay on the OH TPK, get off at the Sandusky exit where there are several indoor water parks associated with hotels. I am not experienced with these parks, but they are popular and your 12 year old should love.

Ditto the Sandusky stop, we often roadtrip from MI to Sandusky to go to Kahlahari, but be warned - it is always crowded, but a blast. There is also a Great Wolf Lodge, which is more oriented to younger children. It is about 2 1/2 hours from Sandusky to Detroit.

Well, I answered my own question. The trip is a 9 hour drive. Are you making this a "road trip" to do things specifically or are you just going to visit family. I'd do it in a day and have it behind me--and him. ;o)

You should think about Niagara Falls as a possible stop and then finish the trip across Canada through Windsor Ontario.... we also have a Great Wolf lodge, several attractions perfect for a 12, concerts, fireworks on Fridays, plus the amazing Falls... and its not that much longer a trip... good luck
