DC -- Super 8

Is the Super 8 in DC on New York Avenue in an OK neighborhood? A friend told me he has a reservation there next month and I questioned whether the neighborhood is safe for walking around at night. It wasn't when I lived in Chevy Chase four years ago.

It is the absolute worst area! Unsafe to walk anywhere. You will need to drive to downtown and the sights (but where would he park??) or take a taxi. Either option could be a nightmare if there's any commuter traffic on NY Ave. Also, nothing in the immediate area worth eating, etc. (asuming he's brave enough to wander around looking).

Please tell your freind to consider a slight increase in hotel budget and then look at the Red Roof Inn Chinatown or one of the inexpensive places in the close-in suburbs of Arlington/Alexandria.

I wholeheartedly agree with bardo1 -- you could not PAY me to stay in that area. There is also no opportunity for "walking around" to anything (day or night). Bardo1 made some good alternate suggestions -- hope your friend will consider them.

Another cheap alternative would be the Comfort Inn on 13th Street near Logan Circle.
