DC Steakhouse

Any tips on good steakhouses in/around DC that are also a good value? Also, any tips on good basic seafood joints? I have read all the food critic reviews, etc but would like some "real" advice. (We are not fancy types). Thanks

Okay, let me offer a couple of possibilities and it will also serve to get your post back up to the top...

Ruth's Chris Steak House, 1801 Connecticut Ave (near Dupont Circle) is a great place to have a steak dinner. Sure, you'll get the old "it's a chain" rap on it. Don't let that stop you, because these people know what they're doing with steaks, desserts, prawns, appetizers, and everything else. They also have a great wine selection and they know how to serve it: decanters, aeration funnels -- the works. You won't be dissapointed.

For seafood, check out the Market Inn, 200 E Street. It's something on the order of pub dining but it's great and you won't go away hungry. They have live lobster, all sorts of seafood entrees and an absolutely fabulous She-Crab soup that you should definitely have. Everything's super, right down to the crusty rolls -- and there is no need to dress up. Go there! :o)

The Prime Rib has the best beef in D.C. and they give you more beef for your money than anywhere else - you'll think you've been served half the cow. But the important thing is that it's top quality and is served (if you like) w/ fresh grated horseradish. They also have valet parking

How about Rays the Steaks on Wilson in Arlington? Certainly not fancy and quite small with only 4-5 steaks on the menu but all hand cut and prepared carefully by the owner.

Amazing that as a place so close to Annapolis and wonderful seafood, we in DC don't have many great seafood places. Kinkead's on Pennsylvania Avenue is pricey , but has fabulous food and many great fish dishes. For the best authentic Chesapeake Bay seafood in the area, a quick trip to Silver Spring and Crisfields would be in order.
