Kinkead's has amazing seafood and reasonable prices at lunch. You will need reservations.
I love Italian food, especially Tuscan, and DC has a lot of it. I haven't been to all of the famous places yet (I'd rather save for a trip to Italy), but Matti and Obelisk are both good. I loved Cesco (in Bethesda), but I hear it's no longer worth the trip. I Ricchi had adequate food but mediocre service.
Avoid Filomena.

The Old Ebbitt Grill is worth a visit, not only for terrific food, but for its' historial value. The walls are loaded with memorabilia from past presidents, and you're likely to see some famous people on any given nite. The food is terrific, with oysters, a good Sunday brunch and great breakfasts as well

For seafood, try Pesce in Dupont Circle (21 & P Sts.) or Tony and Joe's in Georgetown at the Washington Harbour. For Italian, try Otello's on Connecticut Avenue.

For excellent italian food, including seafood, I strongly recommend Filomena's in Georgetown. They make a homemade ravioli in lobster sauce with shrimp and scallops that is out of this world. It's not cheap, but worth every penny. Great desserts, too.

Jennifer--you can also spend some happy minutes (or hours) searching the Washinton Post's reviews at http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv...ants/front.htm

Happy eating

For Chinese -- try The City Lights of China; reasonable prices, delicious food, large portions.
