DC restaurant for kids
 

Our family will be visiting DC for about 5 days next week. we have 2 children- a daughter 13 and a son 9. Can anyone please recommend some good restaurants that children might enjoy? We are staying near Foggy Bottom but will be traveling all over the city.

DC has both a Planet Hollywood and a Hard Rock. For fast food there are cafeterias in the museums with hamburgers etc. The food court at Union Station is lots of fun and there is also an Unos Pizza there.

I forgot, since you will be close to Georgetown, you may venture over to do some shopping. There is a neat French cafeteria I believe called La Madeline'son M Street. Great pasteries.

The Adams Morgan neighborhood has great little cafes - with a huge culture mix. We ate in Italian, Ethiopian, Brazilian and Columbian places and all had top notch food and atmostphere. Our daughter was 12 and our nephew 7 - they really enjoyed the trip. Adams Morgan is within walking distance of the Woodley Park Subway station and the Zoo.

Anyone out there know if Clydes is still there? My teens enjoyed burgers and crabcakes there a few years back. They're proximal to a mall in Georgetown that was a nice place to wander after lunch.

Clyde's is certainly still there and I would recommend it as well. Closer to Georgetown University is The Tombs downstairs from the 1789 restaurant. It's a real college hangout with great burgers and fries as well as other things. Good atmosphere for teens. The 1789 is a good recommendation if Mom and Dad want to go out alone, but too formal for the kids.

We also went to a unique Russian restaurant in Georgetown that was downstairs in a basement. I cannot recall the name, unfortunately, however, it had a mural of famous Russians dining, my kids reminded me. The food was excellent. Perhaps it would be listed in the DC phonebook, under "Restaurants, Russian."

There's also a crab place on Wisconsin Ave. toward Bethesda where you eat with hands on paper table cloths-- the Dancing Crab. In Union Station there are little places they might enjoy as well. Over in Arlington across Key Bridge is a place called Red Hot and Blue with deliciious pulled pork sandwiches and other barbeque.(very informal--good for kids.) Convenient to the Rosslyn Metro stop.

Reeves restaurant & Bakery is "a Washington Landmark, established 1887" it is at 1306 G Street NW, (202-628-6350) short walk from the metro stop that serves the Washington Convention Center. a favorite of lots of folks who work in DC. GREAT for lunch, inexpensive, family friendly, the desserts are wonderful, the Coke ice cream floats are perfect on a hot day, and the waitresses call you "Honey" and "Darlin'" and MEAN it! when I am in DC on business I always meet my cousin here for lunch. the folks here are SO NICE!

Right near you (can't remember the address, but I *think* it's on K at 20th) is Sholl's Colonial Cafeteria. Great for breakfast and a real deal, plus it's a Washington institution. <BR>Old Glory Barbeque in Georgetown on M is pretty good.
