DC restaurant advice, please
 

I will be in DC for a week in January, staying at the Grand Hyatt. I'd like to try some restaurants that would be close by. I assume I will be in the "downtown" area. Any suggestions? I love Italian food (and most other). Please suggest places that would be a walk or short cab ride. Thank you.

Try Tosca, not too far from your hotel. Cafe Milano in Georgetown was recently written up in the Washington Post as "the" place to go in D.C. Go to www.washingtonpost.com in the Style section and you can check out types of restaurants in various parts of the city.

Grand Hyatt is about 11th &amp; G (NW).<BR>- Can't go wrong with the &quot;Old Ebbitt Grill&quot; (14th &amp; G).<BR>- Also Michael Jordan has his own restaurant downtown called &quot;jordans&quot; (13th &amp; Penn)<BR>- New restaurant called &quot;Zola&quot; is pretty nice (8th &amp; F)<BR>- For New Orleans style, can't go wrong with &quot;Georgia Brown's&quot; (15th &amp; K)<BR>- For a SW cusine, try &quot;Red Sage&quot; - a little pricey though (14th &amp; F)<BR><BR>All these restaurants can be found on: http://www.opentable.com/<BR>

Hi Sue,We also stayed at the Grand Hyatt and loved it there! We walked over to the 701 Pennsylvania Avenue Restaurant and found it to be an excellent dining experience.The service,food,wait staff,and atmosphere was great!We also walked to Chinatown and stopped in the Wok and Roll Chinese Restaurant for some fabulous General Tso's Chicken...really spicy and delicious.You'll love Washington D.C.

Thank you so much! This is very helpful. I think we'll definately try Old Ebbitts Grill and Georgia Brown's. Also, I'd like to go to a shopping center. Is the Metro Center good for shopping? If not, any suggestions?

Take the metro to Pentagon City (yellow or blue line to Pentagon City stop) and you will find plenty of shopping opportunities.<BR><BR>Also I second the recommendation for Georgia Brown's.

Butterfield 9 and DC Coast

I love Old Town Alexandria. It's a great place to walk around and explore. I don'w remember any restaurant names, unforunately.

Sue:<BR>DC is the best! Lived in the DuPont area for awhile and then in Arlington. We didn't hang out too much in the downtown area, so I'll give you other dining and shopping suggestions in case you decide to head out. The metro is so easy and cabs aren't that expensive, I would suggest you go out and explore because there is so much more to DC than what you find downtown!<BR><BR>Adams Morgan (the area between Florida, 18th and U Streets) is a great place to eat and people watch. Tons of ethnic restaurants at all different price ranges. Our favorite is Cashion's Eat Place on Columbia and 18th. <BR><BR>The best Mexican in town is near the same area, called Lauriol Plaza. Worth the wait!<BR><BR>Definitely try to get to Georgetown, if you can. Fun to go shopping there. Eat at Old Glory -- great bbq and a fun atmosphere. <BR><BR>Someone recommended Old Towne Alexandria, and they were right. I don't know many restaurants in that area, except Austin Grill. But you should definitely check out the Torpedo Factory.. . .old torpedo factory turned art gallery/studio. And it is right on the Potomac, so nice views to take in! Tell Claire, the Target Gallery director there, that Kellie sent you! (My old college roomie!!)<BR><BR>Oh, and one other great suggestion that shouldn't be too far from your hotel is Jaleo -- a tapas bar that has wonderful sangria! My son went to college in DC, therefore our family has been there many times. One of our favorite restaurants is &quot;Two Quails&quot;. It is near the Capital Building on a side street and is housed in a brownstone. It is very eclectic. You walk in and it reminds you of your grandmothers home. Nothing really matches. All different fabrics, checks, paisleys, solids. Different chairs at each table. Very cozy and interesting. Food is Fantastic. Service is great. We had a graduation dinner there and we have quite an array of different personalites in our family.<BR>Everyone loved it.
