DC Itinerary Help

I need some help planning my itinerary for Tuesday January 16th in Washington DC.

Because we'll be there over a MLK day, a national holiday, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing will only be open one day of our trip.

This was also the day we planned on visiting the Capitol.

Obviously, my dilemna is that they both rely on timed tickets for entry. Is there any way we can do both in one day? I know it would be impossible in July, but I'm hoping that a Tuesday in January would be a little easier.

Thanks!

Neither place requires all day, so why not schedule one for the morning and one for the afternoon. I'd allow much more time for the Capitol, though, because you might also want to look in on the Superme Court or Library of Congress while you are in that area.

I would second the vote for both library of cong and the supreme court--particularly if the court is hearing a case. both buildings are very interesting. of couse the native american museum is over there too.

I would love to do one in the am and one in the pm, however, my main concern is that I will not be able to obtain tickets for both the Bureau of Engraving & Printing AND the Capitol. I assume that tickets for the entire day will be gone shortly after they are available to get.

PS youngtom - I would love to see the Library of Congress and Supreme Court, but they are of little interest to my 7 year old, who is the boss of this trip. Maybe in a couple years.

In the post-9/11 world, the public tours of the Capitol regrettably are only given in the morning, so I would go there first. Some energetic families with cell phones send a person to both locations in situations like this to coordinate. I believe that the Capitol starts distribution at 7:30 and the BEP at 8:00 but you need to check current info. I agree with your sense that that a Tuesday in January will be easier than a Tuesday in July.

There are options for getting tickets for special timed tours from your member of Congress or Senator if you live in the States -- it may be too late for that at this point, but it could be worth a call to those offices.

Good luck.
