DC - Is Eastern Market Better on Sat or Sun?
What I've read on Eastern Market sounds interesting. Am I correct that there is a crafts market on Saturday and a flea market on Sunday? If you've been to either (or both!) can you describe them? I'm trying to decide which day to go.
Also, looking for good places for lunch in that area? Thanks! |
Both the craft market and flea market are open BOTH Saturday and Sunday.
http://www.easternmarketdc.com/ FWIW, I like Saturdays better but if one weekend day has nicer weather, then just go that day. I like the French bistro Montmartre (a few blocks south of the market bldg on 7th - next to Ben&Jerry's). A little pricy but exquisite food. Outdoor seating available to boot:) http://www.washingtonian.com/dining/...ontmartre.html If you want something easier on the wallet, go to Market Lunch inside the market bldg. Crabcake and oyster sandwiches and much, much, more. Their breakfast is great too. Share a wooden bench and table with other patrons. If you think there is space just ask them to slide over. Lunch is less than $10 including drink. |
The craft market and the flea market are very similar in that the "flea market" sells mostly hand crafted items, paintings, prints, ceramics, artwork, and very selected collectibles. There is NO clothing, tools, toys (unless made by the artist selling them there), or other general used "Stuff" one often associated with flea markets. Every vendor at the Eastern Market flea market has sale items more often seen in small shops.

As a former artist exhibitor, I'll say that Saturday tends to be more interesting than Sunday.

Thank you very much!
