DC in September with teens
 

We are travelling to DC in a few weeks with 13 year old girls - staying by Georgetown. Any suggestions (besides shopping in Georgetown which is all they talk about) for things to do, places to eat, tours to take. Are there any plays or musicals scheduled this month that would appeal to teenage girls?

You could take the Old town trolley tour.Very interesting. We'll do both the Old town tour and the moonlight tour next week.Paul

My husband and I love Clyde's of Georgetown happy hour specials(buffalo wings-$4, hamburger-$4, crabcake sandwich-$6). We also like Pizza Paradisio in Georgetown. Both restaurants are within walking distance of each other.

Don't do the Trolley Tour because you can around easily with the metro and buses(particularly the DC Circulator).

we are staying at the embassy suites - first time for the girls to DC so I want to make it as fun as possible.

Take a Monument by Night Tour with one of the local touring companies. They will pick you up at your hotel and take you to all of the monuments, giving you history, background, etc. on all of them as well as making stops for photo ops.

We first did this with our daughter when she was a teen and she LOVED it. We do it every time we go back and I recommend it to anyone/everyone who asks.

Hi jujubes, I don't know how this would appeal to teenage girls but my 15 year old grandson recently returned from a vacation to DC. He gave us quite an oral trip report. The two things that made the biggest impression on him was the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington Cemetery. When our daughter was 13 she spent a month in DC. Her biggest thrill was seeing the First Ladies inguaration gowns at the Smithstonian Institue. She remembers the details of every dress to this day. They might enjoy that as they probably love clothes.

Alas, the girls won't be able to see the gowns of the First Ladies. The Smithsonian musem of American History is closed for renovations.

If you want to see a show, be sure to check for available tickets at Ticketplace on 7th St., NW, right by the Archives metro (yellow line). Same day tickets are sold at half price plus 10% of the original price as a surcharge.

Anyone paying full price for "Shear Madness" is making a mistake. Same day discounted tickets are available for 99% of the performances at Ticketplace. I just took some guests last week.

By the way, "Shear Madness" has been playing for about 20 years at The Kennedy Center. The audience votes on who did the murder and the ending is played according to the vote. No chance that this run will end anytime soon.
