DC hotels: Willard vs Hay Adams

Christmas holiday plans are almost complete..responses to my previous post has led me to a toss up between staying at the Willard or the Hay Adams. Both are beautiful historical grand hotels, offering afternoon tea , good locations ( I'll be taking taxis to National Gallery and Phillips Collection)
and do great holiday decorating in the lobby.
Has anyone stayed at both of these hotels??
I'm looking for a tie breaker. thanks.

Six of one, half dozen of the other.
Having stayed at both hotels, I prefer the Hay Adams. It is much smaller and more intimate. Hope this helps.

I stayed at the Willard and it was beautiful and active, the H.A. is more subdued but also beautiful.
