DC Hotel Pheonix Park or Melrose Hotel
 

I've spent countless hours trying to find a reasonably priced hotel (under 250 a night) in the DC area. I've considered Priceline but I can't seem to decide what to do! AHHHH! Anyway, I've found decent reviews of the Phoenix Park and the Melrose Hotel. Any comments or suggestions? We'll be going the week of 6/19 for four nights.

Last time I stayed there, there was no real temperature control in the rooms. It was winter and about 90. I wound up taking apart the sheet metal radiator cover with my Swiss Army knife (obviously this was a while back)to get at the valve to shut the radiator off. Not relevant to you, but if you call, you might explain that you are temperature sensitive and find out if they have upgraded this system in the past few years.

Ackislander- which one did you have that problem at? Phoenix or Melrose?

My husband and I spent 3 nights at the Phoenix Park last week (when the rate was only $119). Part of the hotel has been renovated in the last few months and we stayed in that part. This DC travel bureau website is offering it for $199/night http://www.washington.org/americanoriginals/ but be aware that their parking, if you wish to use it is $30/night and internet is another $10.

The room was beautifully appointed and we loved it - it faced North Capital and we had a view of the Smithsonian Postal Museum across the street and the Union Station flag plaza just beyond.

We enjoyed Dubliner's tavern, especially their outdoor dining, and ate several meals there. The only comment I'd make that could be considered a complaint is that the room was very small and had only a double bed in it. But it was so attractive and the staff was excellent and the location was so great - I would definitely stay there again.

The Pheonix Park has a better location for sightseeing.

The Melrose is in a nice area (next to Kennedy Center) and is an easy walk to the shopping in Georgetown.

Personally, I would prefer the Pheonix Park.
