DC Easter Brunch
Hubbie and I are going to Washington DC for a four-day getaway over the Easter weekend. Does anyone have a brunch recommendation for Easter morning? We like fun, laid-back places with good food. We're staying in Dupont Circle, but could take a cab or Metro. I'd love to hear your ideas! Thanks.

Oh, one more thing - jazz would be great!
|
They might already be booked, but if you can get a table..... Cashion's Eat Place. It's fantastic.

We were thinking of Cashion's...they only take reservations for parties of 6 to 8 for brunch :-(
|
For a JAZZ brunch I suggest Georgia Brown's. Georgia Brown's is also very good, but deciding strictly on the food, I would give the lead to Cashion's.

I also like Chef Geoff's...know the Tenley area location has jazz on Sundays - not sure about downtown.
|
For an upscale place try the retaurant on top of the Kennedy center-Best Brunch and View i've ever had. For something more laid back-we really like the brunch at Four Coutrs in VA(Courthouse metro) they often have live Irish music or a harpist playing. Our Whitlows on Wilson in VA(Claredon Metro) they have a great brunch and around 11am they bring out all of this great fresh seafood.

Such great suggestions! So many places to try :-) Thanks!

Don't know if this might be too far for you, but we had a lovely (and inexpensive) Easter meal at Mt. Vernon one year.

Any recommendations for an Easter breakfast/brunch place for a family of seven? We have a mix of young, teens and old. (We'll be visiting for about 5 days, one of them being Easter Sunday). Thus, would like to find a place for Easter Mass (Catholic) and then someplace for a late breakfast or brunch that won't totally break the bank. Thanks!
|
Consider Mass at St. Matthew's Cathedral and then brunch at the exquisite, cozy, relaxed Tabard Inn 1 block away(reservations essential).

Thanks for the suggestions. I checked the website and I think the menu would prove hard for the kids in the group...they'd probably prefer a more traditional omlette or french toast type of breakfast/brunch. Any other suggestions? Keep them coming...and thanks so much!

Look at the Luna Grille (Dupont location is also 1 block to St. Matt's)

Staying at Mariott Metro Center (12th Street). Will probably hit Easter morning Mass somewhere near our hotel. (Still trying to figure that out...suggestions welcome for Catholic masses) and then brunch/Easter breakfast after. Suggestions? In a different post about Churches I've read about Luna Grill and St Matthews?? Others??

St. Patrick's is two blocks from your hotel. http://www.saintpatrickdc.org/
A great brunch right there is Bistro D'oc http://www.bistrodoc.com/home.html There are many other brunch options nearby as well including: Cafe Atlantico http://www.bistrodoc.com/home.html Jaleo http://www.jaleo.com/ Poste http://www.postebrasserie.com/ Zaytinya http://www.zaytinya.com/ |
Thank you SO much for the quick response. St. Patrick's sounds ideal, close enough for all of us (teens, toddlers and grandma). The restaurant suggestions are deeply appreciated. Could I also inquire about places central to St. Patrick's that would offer a more standard fare breakfast/brunch...it's those finicky teens and grandma that sort of throw a wrench into meals...

There is one place nearby that might fit the bill - <b>Teaism</b> at 8th&D NW. I would call to let them know the size of your group.

Thanks for the note about Teasim. I checked their website and I think the adults would be ok, but it might prove "iffy" for the kids. So I'm still open for breakfast/brunch locales near St Patrick's Church (Easter Sunday). Thanks everyone!
|
If waffles, french toast, scrambled eggs, scones, oatmeal, and granola are "iffy", then I am at my wits end.
|
Gee, I certainly didn't mean to put anyone at "wits end". I did look at their menu, and while they have sourdough french bread, I didn't see "regular" eggs or things such as bacon or homefries .. .the stuff that typical picky teens like. I did however see the scones, Cilantro scrambled eggs and chicken sausage. I can't (and won't) make apologies for my kids bland taste buds and thus perhaps should have been more specific in my request for "regular breakfast food". My apologies for pushing you to the brink. Thanks again to you and to any others who might respond. It is truly appreciated.

No problem.
If you want a GREAT "regular style" breakfast, you could always take a 10 minute taxi ride back up to the Tabard Inn - see above (reservations required). Closer to St. Patrick's, the hotel your staying at, Marriott Metro Center, is certainly a safe bet for a "regular" breakfast. The quality is typical of a chain hotel breakfast. That is to say, just OK. A diner close to St. Patrick's is the Waffle House at 10th & F. Hash browns, bacon, toast, grits, etc. - it's pretty good. Somewhat of a dive - you'll be the best dressed group there in your Easter outfits. Hope this helps. |
Also a 10 minute taxi from St. Patrick's is is Luna Grille - see above. Typical breakfast food and much better than your average hotel breakfast buffet.
