DC Baseball Trip July 2018
 

The Red Sox are finally playing the Nationals so we're coming to DC to take in a game. Found great airfare and arrive at Reagan Airport Sat June 30th around 9:00am and head home Tues Jul 3rd, giving us a few days to take in the sites. The only event we are committed to is the baseball game on Mon Jul 2nd in the evening. While in DC we are interested in the Air Space Museum and the Smithsonian (American History), Botanical Garden, FBI, The Mint, The Lincoln Memorial and others for sure but would like feedback on other events to see/do while in DC.

My boyfriend is into trains so I thought he might also like to see Union Station. I have also contacted our Congressman for tickets to the White House but haven't heard anything yet and didn't know if tours were still being offered.

We won't be renting a car but have heard public transportation is easy to use. We've also had good luck with the Hop on Hop off buses in other cities we visited.

Currently we have cancellable reservations on the following hotels. Not all have a pool and while it would be nice it's not a deal breaker. None seem to have shuttle from airport so what would be the easiest way to reach hotel from airport. Looking for convenience to public transportation and easy walking distance to places to eat. Not into nightclubs but enjoy a good meal and nice city views so restaurant suggestions would also be appreciated.

Among those hotels, I'd stay at the Capitol Hilton or the Embassy Suites because they're more "in the middle" of things. Distances from the Hyatt aren't that great, it's just more out of the way.

Tours of the FBI are arranged through your congressional rep.

If you don't get WH tour tickets, you can still go to the Visitor Center (which has a fair amount to engage with) and do a walk by of the iconic view of WH.

Air & Space, American History and Botanic Garden are walkable distances from one another. The more popular museums (like Air&Space and History) usually have extended hours in the summer. So check their websites.

If you're going to do a bus tour, consider a night time tour of the monuments.

Union Station has its own metro stop so it would be an easy target of opportunity. Really nice architecture.

Hotels. My choices would be the order in which you've listed them. I agree with sf, the Hyatt House is a bit of an outlier.

Metro is easy to use. Uber is very reliable.

Sounds like a fun trip. You've got a nice list of things to see and probably enough time to see most of them.

We took a boat to the stadium and that was really fun, left from Old Town Alexandria. We also really enjoyed the Newseum.

Do you have to go home on July 3? A "Capitol Fourth " is something to remember. Union Station is within walking distance of the capitol building. Reagan National airport has it's own Metro stop.
