Dc & obx

Planning a trip from the Detroit area to DC and then the Outer Banks early April Have not been to OBX, so want to see as much as possible. Looking for suggestions on routes and not to miss sites. Want to change the return trip to pass through Columbus OH if possible. Thanks for any suggestions. Have a week to do this. PS...love seafood!

It seems like an odd combination of destinations. Are you driving? Just DC to OBX is over 300 miles, which means 2 of your 7 days (even 9 days, if you have two weekends). That doesn't account for the drive to DC, which is over 500 miles from Detroit. Even if you could drive 500 miles in one day, you'd be giving up 4 days of your 9 to driving.

Yes, driving. Started out with just OVX, but since in the general direction of DC, added it on. Once I map it out, may revise. OBX is main destination. And we’ve done a lot of coastal trips, so this doesn’t seem undoable.

The drive between OBX and DC can be stop and go--especially on weekends into/out of OBX. It might not be as bad in April as in summer though.

You will lose a day to OBX, almost a day from OBX to DC and another day back to Detroit. So you really have 4 days. Stay in OBX only and get a 5th day to relax! Others can say if you need to get a rental pretty soon in OBX.

Its a 14 hour drive (maybe) so at least 2 days are gone. People forget how far out NC juts into the Atlantic.
