Daytrips from Anchorage?

Hi,

I am working in Anchorage for the summer...lucky me! Do you have any suggestions for daytrips for a lone female? I particularly enjoy scenery and photography. My sister will be coming for 2 weeks in August after I finish my assignment so I want to leave the pricey stuff such as fjord cruises, flightseeing, etc for when she comes.

Thanks!

Lucky you! The public market on Saturdays and Sundays. Iditarod Headquarters in Wasilla. Independence Mine (great view down the valley). Wildflowers are great this time of year. Have you discovered the great bookstore in Anchorage - the Title Wave?

Hope, Knik Glacier, Matanuska Glacier, Flat Top, Big Lake, Kenai... I'll think of others.
