Daytona...What to do? Where to stay?
 

First visit to Daytona coming up in 11/03. Husband wants to visit the Daytona Speedway, but we need ideas as to what else to do over a 2 day visit. Also, any suggestions regarding hotel/motel accommodations would be appreciated. We would like to stay right on the beach, near the boardwalk. Any recommendations for dining (seafood) also appreciated. Thanks!

I stayed at the Mark Adams on the beach. It seemed to be nicer than most hotels

Choose wisely in this area - some of the hotels are very old and run down. The Adams Mark is nice and there's a smaller place called Perry's Ocean Edge that's really very family oriented. Just make sure you check out any hotel's ratings before you book.

I would spend one of your two days at the beach itself. It may not be the most beautiful beach, but it is certainly the most fun! Julians for dinner!!! Also, there's a little outdoor place...VERY casual...down by the lighthouse. I don't remember the name, but easy to find. Anyhow, they have good seafood. Sorry, I can't help with hotels. Have fun.

My husband and I have been to Daytona several times.

Last June we stayed at the Hampton Inn and were pleasantly surprised. Right on the beach, at Daytona Beach Shores.

The staff was great. They had coffee and tea available 24 hrs/day and a good continental breakfast.

We liked it because it was away from the pier and quiet (you'd have to drive a short distance to go to the pier).

The price was good and you get a AAA discount.

They do have a website so be sure to check it out.

We'll be staying there from now on.

Adam's Mark is your best bet for accommodations near the boardwalk. A little further south on a quieter end of the beach is the Hilton Oceanfront - very nice. They also have suites with jacuzzis on the balcony.

One poster mentioned a restaurant down by the lighthouse - yummy! It's called Inlet Harbor... live music, great food, "island-like" atmosphere.
