Days Inn NYC disintegrating

A mesage for anyone planning on staying in this hotel. Yesterday there was a major incident regarding the disintegrating facade of the Days Inn on 8th Ave in NYC. Large sections of the brick facade peeled away with the bricks dropping largely onto the roof of the buidling next door but also directly onto 8th avenue. Fortunately no pedestrians were injured but there were injuries among workers in the next door building. Guests in rooms near the peeling facade had to be moved into another section of the hotel.

The city says the disintegrating facade is due to neglect/lack of maintenance and the entire hotel has been swathed in netting to catch any other falling bricks.

Yikes! When I read your title, I didn't expect "disintegrating" to be so literal, I was expecting comments about dirty rooms or poor service!

Doesn't surprise me. I stayed there a few years ago and it was quite a mess then. I had been booked in at another hotel across the street, but their air conditioning had stopped working and they sent me over to the Days Inn. Yuck.

Gee, it sounds like the opera house near Bastille in Paris. It was built at a cost of millions and within a couple years they had to wrap it in netting to catch the expensive marble tiles that were falling off at an alarming rate.

I thought this message would be regarding "disintegrating" decor and bathrooms...

One can only hope (if it hasn't disintegrated way to far by now in every way) that someone or some chain will buy this place and renovate it entirely!

The location is magnificent. For years and years, folks have complained about the worn and tired decor, outdated bathrooms (read ICKY), etc.
