Days Inn in Scottsdale

My husband and I will be attending a wedding at the Biltmore Hotel in Phoenix and will be spending 4 nights in the area in November. We don't want to spend a lot of money for a hotel (which is why we are not staying at the Biltmore) so we were thinking of the 2 star Days Inn-FashionSquare in Scottsdale since it is only $59 and $49 a night. I read a posting here on Fodor's that said the rooms were very clean and the bathrooms were new and nice. However, someone who lives in Phoenix told us that the hotel is very very old. I would love to get another opinion if anyone has stayed there. Sometimes Days Inn can be dumpy.

Our other option is to go on Priceline and try for a 3 or 4 star hotel, hopefully around the same price...but then we don't know what hotel it is until we submit our credit card, which seems scarey to me.

We don't need a pool or golf. Just want to spend all our extra time sight seeing since we have never been to Phoenix.

Any advise would be most helpful!

Dyann,
The Days Inn is not your most attractive hotel, but if cost is what you are looking for, and location, this may be the place for you. It is directly right next door to Scottsdale Fashion Square. You walk right out your front door a few steps and your're there. Many shops and restaurants so closeby within walking distance. My S-I-L and nephew stayed here while they attended a college graduation and found it just fine for their use.
Good luck to you.
There are many `suite-type` hotels all over Scottsdale that may work for you also, i.e., Hampton Inn, etc.

The Days Inn will be a long way from the Biltmore area and I think you can do better, although you are arriving during the start of the more expensive prices......I doubt you can beat $49/$59 anywhere, but there are couple of well located suite types not far from The Biltmore. There is one in the Town and Country shopping center at 20th St and Camelback and another not far from that, but I'll have to sleep on it and try to come up with the names.

The Days Inn has an excellent location for shopping and restaurants & the rooms are clean, but expect no frills whatsoever. It's been a few years since I've seen one of the rooms (I once unwittingly recommended the hotel to a friend trying to save money) so I don't know if they have been updated but I remember them as very basic and somewhat dark. Still, $59/$49 for accomodation anywhere in PHX in Nov is cheap. If you'd like to stay closer to the Biltmore, I'd recommend the Homewood Suites on Highland Ave, just a couple of miles from the resort. I don't know the exact dates of your stay but their website has a special for $79/ngt M-Th & $94 on weekends. I think the step up in accomodations would be well worth the price, & the free breakfast will help to compensate for the added cost. Enjoy AZ.

You got it Bones, I believe Homewood Suites on 20th and Highland is the motel I was trying to remember.....good location for driving around, newish so it can't be too bad....it is in Phoenix, not Scottsdale, but certainly easy to get to Scottsdale by going east on Camelback Road just a few miles. Or you can go to downtown Phoenix on 24th St. and turn west to get in some of the sights.....

Just want to let everyone know that we ended up booking the Marriott Suites in Scottsdale. We got a terrific deal on Priceline for only $55 a night. Thanks for the adivce to try for a nicer hotel!

Now I must get back to my packing as we leave this Tuesday, Nove. 11th.
